The most famous migratory shore birds are the Brant geese ( Branta bernicla), who use the beaches of Rathtrevor and Craig Bay as staging and feeding areas during their spring migration to northern Canada and Alaska. Potential reservoir contamination sources, however, include 182 oil and gas wells 18 miles of oil and gas pipelines a 72-inch, above-ground pipe carrying Canfield sewage to Mahoning County’s Meander Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and 145 road and eight rail crossings of the creek, the reservoir or its tributaries, according to MVSD’s. Many shore and migratory birds also use the park area during their spring and fall migrations. Meander Creek Reservoir is a lake located in Mahoning County and Trumbull County near Austintown, Ohio. Several species of wildlife can be seen in the park, including deer, raccoons, squirrels, otters, mink, eagles, osprey, hawks, vultures, and owls. Rathtrevor Campground became Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park in 1967 and, though much has changed since William and Elizabeth first arrived, its beauty and importance will be preserved for our continued enjoyment. The suffix 'trevor' was added to give the campground a more lyrical name. She proved to be an industrious person, successfully running the farm and eventually operating it as a campground. William died in 1903, leaving Elizabeth the farm and five children. The pristine water argument doesn't have merit as far as this reservoir is concerned. They help take away any 'taste' one might detect from algae or organics, but replace them with a potentially carcinogenic compound. They built a log cabin, cleared the land, and built the barn. Meander's PAH levels (compounds formed from chlorinating organics), can be troubling. William Rath, a gold prospector, arrived in 1886 with his young wife and baby daughter. "We need to safeguard our water from accidents occurring on I-80," said Tom Holloway, chief engineer of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District. "We had so many accidents and spills ," said Andrew Frost, Austinburg chief since 1985. "It's a straightforward solution," Joe Alfano, ODOT's construction manager, told the newspaper. Shutoff valves contain the spills and prevent the substances from contaminating the 2,010-acre reservoir, which provides water to Youngstown, Austintown, Niles and several other Ohio cities. The $1.2-million containment project is a model of how to eliminate contamination of freshwater areas and wetlands from highway spills during accidents, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) said. Construction was completed this month on a $91-million bridge and road project, which includes an innovative dirt and clay basin to keep hazardous spills out of a reservoir supplying 300,000 people, along I-80 in Mahoning County, Ohio, The Plain Dealer reported.

Soon my suspicions were confirmed that VoiceTyper and Windows 11 Voice Typing lagged behind Dragon's speed due to processing transcription online with cloud servers. Although Dragon cannot be used to dictate directly into Obsidian, it does transcribe dictation faster and more fluidly than either VoiceTyper or Windows 11 Voice Typing. I only tested each for a few minutes just to see if they worked at all and I did not test them long enough or thoroughly enough to determine just how accurate they are compared to Dragon. VoiceTyper works with Windows 10, but Windows 11 Voice Typing seemed to transcribe a little faster. I have never actually seen a list of exactly what editors Dragon does (or does not) work with.Ī couple of bits of information I can contribute to the body of knowledge are that both VoiceTyper and Windows 11 Voice Typing enable you to dictate directly in Obsidian. Specifically it would be great to learn how you set up WriteMonkey and DragonCapture to work with Obsidian. Your demonstration video was worth 1 million words and I was excited to see how you got it working! It's clear from your posts that you have tested and learned plenty about what Markdown editors and methods do and do not work with Dragon.Ĭould you share more details about your writing process please? I tried checking out the links you shared in this thread, but the only link that works is to your demonstration video on Dropbox. You can use a simple text editor like Notepad or Writemonkey to operate on the SAME file that Obsidian is using.Įnd Yes, Writage is handy for converting Microsoft Word formatting into Markdown but I've always wanted to find a way to dictate writing with Dragon directly in a Markdown editor, especially Obsidian! no markdown conversion necessary - no escape characters - no time spent copying/pasting between the Microsoft Word and the markdown simple text format. However, if purchasing another add-on out of your budget and all you need is a simple command to insert text, it's very straightforward to create a command of your own.ĭragon Professional Individual v15.6. Knowbrainer is great software that I use in conjunction with Dragon and recommend. Lunis has recommended that you buy Knowbrainer. When you use a to command insert text, rather than normal dictation, it will insert the text correctly regardless of what application you are using. If there is no way to get Dragoncapture to work flawlessly (this would be very unfortunate), then I would continue to use Obsidian in conjunction with the Dragon friendly editor. To type directly into Obsidian, I would make heavier use of the "type" command that Lunis mentioned in his previous post. My workflow which I'm very happy with involves using Dragoncapture and Obsidian in conjunction with a Dragon-friendly text editor. Or would you recommend ditching Word to try make Obsidian my sole tool (if dictation will work flawlessly using DragonCapture?) You can use a simple text editor like Notepad or Writemonkey to operate on the SAME file that Obsidian is using.įor a full list of Dragon compatible apps, most of which work with markdown notes, check out this note. no time spent copying/pasting between the Microsoft Word and the markdown simple text format. Here's a video showing how I quickly move back and forth between my Obsidian note and a Dragon compatible simple text editor. To get the advantages of full Select-and-Say functionality, while editing my Obsidian notes directly, I use a simple text editor as per the steps described in the page that I linked previously. I use Writage with Word as well, although the workflow of moving things between Obsidian and Microsoft Word is still very cumbersome I don't like to edit markdown files with Microsoft Word directly for reasons that you mentioned, and I also don't like to use Microsoft Word with dictation because the page jumps all around. I downloaded a plugin for Word called Writage, which allows documents to be dictated and then saved in markdown (sending the updated text straight into Obsidian). Dead Cells is a rogue-like, Castlevania-inspired action-platformer from Motion Twin. Later, Khan attacks and destroys Geoffrey's garrison, but Geoffrey and Elsa manage to get away unscathed. Henry Gordon.) When Geoffrey is sent to Arabia to secure thousands of horses for the British, he meets up with his long-time fiancée, Elsa Campbell (Olivia de Havilland.) Unfortunately, Elsa has hooked up with Perry in the interim, but still feels she should marry Geoffrey. In fact, the British Lords who were responsible for one of the deadliest blunders in all of military history never get so much as a finger pointed at them during the movie.įlynn and Patric Knowles play Geoffrey and Perry Vickers, sibling British soldiers who have to contend with a murderous (and purely fictional) Indian Chieftain named Surat Khan (C. Michel Jacoby's narrative has virtually nothing to do with the very real Crimean War story it's theoretically based upon, outside of the presence of a lot of galloping horses and falling soldiers. History students should put away their notepads while watching this one. Even with Flynn acting like a love-struck nine year-old, however, it's Curtiz who forever stereotyped himself as a tyrant of a director. Though Errol Flynn was on the cusp of major stardom when he and Michael Curtiz teamed up for Warner Bros.' horse and sand epic, The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), Flynn would later contend that the picture was the most miserable experience of his career.never mind that his on-set hijinks also drove his co-star, Olivia de Havilland, to distraction. No one says a director and his leading man have to get along in order to make a terrific movie, but it's a lot easier if at least one of them is capable of behaving like a mature person during the shoot. Macefield then burns Geoffery's letter in which he admits his guilt, and takes full responsibilty for the charge. Macefield sends troops to support the fighting and Sebastopol is taken. The sacrifice of Geoffrey and the six hundered Lancers, however, is not in vain. In the battle, the Kahn shoots and mortally wounds Geoffrey, but even as he is dying, he impales the evil prince. Geoffrey, spurred by his anger over the Chukoti massacre, rewrites the orders and leads a death charge against the Khan's stronghold near Balaklava. Meanwhile, the Kahn has joined with the Russians, and Sir Charles Macefield, commander of the British forces in the Crimea, sends orders with Geoffrey to Warrenton not to attack the Kahn. Geoffrey gallantly accepts his personal defeat and protects Perry by sending him away from the ensuing battle. Elsa and Geoffrey escape, and she finally convinces him that she truly loves Perry. The Khan raids the fort, slaughtering the inhabitants, including Colonel Campbell. When he orders Campbell's troops to march to Lohara on maneuvers, he leaves Chukoti vulnerable. There, Benjamin Warrenton is in command and is unaware that Surat Khan has been gathering forces at the border. Perry, meanwhile, has been sent a few miles away to Lohara. Before they can settle their differences, Geoffrey is sent to Tartar, where he bravely outwits border tribesmen, and then to Chukoti where Colonel Campbell and Elsa are stationed. Geoffrey refuses to believe Perry's revelation, and the brothers quarrel bitterly. While Geoffrey has been away, Elsa has fallen in love with his younger brother, Perry. Geoffrey reports to Calcutta, where his fiancée, Elsa Campbell, is staying with her father, the colonel. Geoffrey recognizes the Khan's displeasure, but wins his personal loyalty when he saves the Khan's life during a leopard hunt. Major Geoffrey Vickers of the 27th Bengal Lancers, and Sir Humphrey Harcourt, an English diplomat, visit the Amir Surat Khan of Suristan to tell him that funds previously guaranteed from the British government have been discontinued. Instead, he uses these tropes to weave an engaging tale about the balance of “chaos” and “order” and the unwitting heroes who get caught in the middle. “Impressively, Mistwalker has gone to the trouble of producing more than 150 physical models filled with incredible amounts of detail and scanned them into the game.” While the dialogue itself might not be terribly original, the characters prove to be quite likable and grew on me over time. Learning more about Leo’s past by following the interdimensional exploits of his enigmatic father kept me intrigued, while the tragic backstories Princess Cheryl and the Queendom of Vibra and the mysterious Kina added a powerful emotional hook. All the while, Sakaguchi maintains the whimsy of the older FF games through fun bickering between the characters, like the Uzra airship captain Zinikr constantly butting heads with the disrespectful-yet-genius orphan Ez. The world of Fantasian is also fleshed out through beautiful hand-drawn vignettes that offer a nice change of pace from traditional cutscenes while allowing the music of famed composer Nobuo Uematsu - Sakaguchi’s friend and longtime Final Fantasy collaborator - to really shine through. Overall, the legendary musician’s work here is outstanding and, surprisingly, even experimental, mixing the likes of rock, piano and synth with such distinct sounds as an internet dial-up connection to convey the mood of an alternate dimension robot-filled factory. While Fantasian‘s otherwise solid story and characters don’t necessarily tread new ground for RPGs, Mistwalker has done a commendable job distinguishing the game in a number of other key ways. The most apparent of these is Fantasian‘s absolutely gorgeous aesthetic, which blends well-designed HD character models with actual intricate real-world dioramas. II 'Forward, the Light Brigade!' Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Some one had blunder'd: Their's not to make reply, Their's not to reason why, Their's but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. 'Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!' he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. I HALF a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. And, yes, the text has even been translated into Russian. Tennyson himself recites the poem on a wax-cylinder recording here. It's not a great poem, perhaps, but it is a great ballad. Yet its narrative grip and verve are beyond question. Skilful elision and brilliantly descriptive shorthand at times approach cliche. There's a certain theatricality and exaggeration in the twice-repeated line, "All the world wonder'd". It recreates the sabre-flashing excitement of warfare, even in the ironical context of bare sabres against guns. I don't think it sets out to glorify war, but it's certainly not a protest. Tennyson's poem doesn't contribute to the analysis of the "blunder" itself, though he might have found rich material in the psychology of the main players. The relentless pace of the cavalry as they gallop into "the mouth of Hell" is vividly rendered in the breathlessly short lines and thundering rhythms, whereas the return of the survivors brings a gasp of shocked recognition: "but not/ Not the six hundred". The poem is remarkable for the simplicity and dramatic immediacy of its description. Since the poem soon became essential reading for the soldiers in the field, it seems that Tennyson's imagination stood the test of authenticity: at least, he had produced a story which drew assent. The line, "Someone had blundered," almost casually inserted in verse two, is an understatement in the context, and all the more effective for it. It's as if one word had acted as an aural shortcut into Tennyson's whole imagination. Tumultuous hoof-beats sound in these repetitions. "Blunder'd," though used only once, begets the rhyme with "the six hundred", main component of the poem's trenchant refrain. The Times article seems to have led Tennyson to the phrase, "Someone had blunder'd", and so to his perfectly-chosen metrical scheme – dactylic dimeter. Back in his study he swiftly transcribed it, then sent it to the London Examiner, where it was published a week later, on 9 December 1854. The genre is an oral one, and it's significant that, before he wrote anything down, Tennyson sang the poem aloud as he walked over the chalk ridge near his home on the Isle of Wight. But this is also poetry in the ancient costume of the ballad, re-tailored for new times by the Romantic poets a little earlier. Written in response to a Times editorial, in which the author referred to "a hideous blunder" in the conduct of the battle, The Charge of the Light Brigade may signal a new journalistic genre of poetry, where, if the news can't be got from poems, poets can certainly get their poems from the news. To its admirers, the poem's a tribute to the Light Brigade's selfless courage: to its attackers, it's the sentimental glorification of war and empire. Tennyson's poem is not, of course, a fantasy: it's a largely accurate account of an actual, and very dreadful, historical event which took place during the Battle of Balaclava. The subject is an emotive one, centred on the timelessly appealing stereotype of heroic ordinary soldier versus incompetent high command (a theme which continued to grip the imagination of the poets of the first world war). It's certainly the kind of poem people love or hate for anything-but-literary reasons. So how does it look from 2014? Great poem, good poem, bad poem, good bad poem? It's a verdict Steane himself tentatively commends ("I think there might be something in it.") Even the poet seems to have found its popularity irritating. Once enormously popular and much-memorised, this week's poem, Alfred Tennyson's The Charge of the Light Brigade, was also vilified, according to JB Steane, as "horrid rubbish". When properly installed using appropriate methods and installation materials, a tiled floor or wall is waterproof and protects against water that could otherwise ruin your construction underneath. It's also important to ensure your shower flooring is waterproof. Safety First: Tiles are ideal for areas exposed to water on shower walls and grip tiles for floors that work to prevent slips and falls. She also thinks the sections work great on a green salad. She recommends trying it in a salsa, with chopped bell peppers and cilantro. It can keep for several weeks in the refrigerator, but it will taste better if you let it return to room temperature before serving. "It's actually recommended that if you're going to be eating grapefruit within the week to just store it at room temperature," she said. "And that is the type of fiber that can help lower (bad) LDL cholesterol and seems to be what they call a prebiotic that helps to nurture the healthy bacteria in our gut." "Those membranes are rich in a type of dietary fiber called pectin, which is what we would call a viscous fiber," Collins said. (Be sure to rinse it before you cut: Otherwise, the knife might push bacteria on the skin through the entire fruit.)īut if you peel it like an orange and eat it by the section, you get added benefits from the membranes. The classic way to enjoy grapefruit-splitting it and eating with a spoon-is OK, she said. Studies have found grapefruit provides no special boost to weight loss.Įven so, grapefruit's tartness encourages people not to gulp it in a rush but to slow down, letting them feel full with relatively few calories, "and that is exactly an approach that research does support as the kind of eating pattern that helps people reach and maintain a healthy weight," Collins said. "The things that are not true are that grapefruit has some kind of magical power, or contains some kind of fat-burning enzyme, that you're going to eat it and burn calories while you're sleeping," Collins said. Here's where its reputation drifts into the realm of fable. In the past, grapefruit has been the very symbol of a "diet" food. They might be able to switch your prescription to something unaffected by grapefruit, or even advise you to simply watch the timing of when you eat it. But talk with your pharmacist or health care provider to clarify what's safe. If you enjoy grapefruit or grapefruit juice and take such medications, there's no need to panic, Collins said. Too much drug increases the risk of side effects too little means the drug may not work as well. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can cause too much or too little of a drug to stay in the body. It particularly affects certain anti-cholesterol statin drugs, as well as some medicines used to treat high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats and even allergies. But grapefruit's reputation for interfering with some medications is well-deserved. One cup of red or pink grapefruit sections has as much lycopene as a medium 4-ounce tomato. Pink and red grapefruit are good sources of beta carotene (a source of vitamin A) and lycopene, an antioxidant "cousin" to beta carotene that has been linked to lower stroke risk. Grapefruit also is laden with natural plant compounds called phytochemicals, specifically flavonoids, which studies show can help fight stroke and heart disease. "In addition, it's a reasonable source of potassium," which is important for maintaining healthy blood pressure, said Karen Collins, a registered dietitian in western New York who specializes in cancer prevention and heart health. Department of Agriculture, half a medium grapefruit has only 41 calories and nearly half a day's recommended supply of vitamin C. Some of that reputation is fact, and some is myth.įacts first: According to the U.S. |
